The 1st International Freiberg Conference on Electrochemical Storage Materials took place at the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany from June 3rd to 4th, 2013. We are very happy that more than 70 participants found their way to Alte Mensa in the historical center of the former mining town of Freiberg despite the fact that it was raining continuously.
We would like to thank everyone involved, the conference participants, the speakers, the local organising committee as well as all supporters. You all contributed to a successful start of a long-term, active as well as inspiring platform for electrochemical storage materials.
After the Welcome Speech held by Dr. Tilmann Leisegang, Institute for Experimental Physics, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Mr. Christophe Pillot initially presented us an introduction to energy storage with a market analysis and an outlook. Professor Dr. Deyang Qu then outlined fundamental principles of battery design. In the course of the day Cathodes, Anodes, Separators, Electrolytes and Supercapacitor specialities as well as Packaging were presented concerning useful materials. We are glad and grateful that we could win Dr. Daniel Claus, Professor Dr. Rudolf Holze, Dr. Christoph Weber, Professor Dr. Perla Balbuena, Vasile V. N. Obreja and Dr. Matthias Herrmann for holding these lectures.
In the evening of the first day we met at “Brauhof” in Freiberg for a conference dinner and got the possibility for interesting conversations. We would like to thank “Brauhof” for a delicious dinner and of course “Trio Insolite” for the great background music.
The last day of the conference was dedicated to technological aspects. Analogous to the first day, Cathodes, Anodes, Separators, Electrolytes and Supercapacitor specialities as well as Packaging were presented. We are happy that we could win Professor Dr. Ehrenberg, Dr. Richard Wills, Dr. Jochen Schilm, Dr. Markus Vogt, Professor Dr. Gleb Yushin and Dr. Eric Maiser for holding these lectures. Thank you very much for your contribution.
After a discussion in the method of the “World Café” we spent some time during a sightseeing tour in Freiberg. For the first time in these last days it stopped raining and we enjoyed the tour without an umbrella and wet shoes.
Dear conference participants, we thank you very much for you attendance on the 1st International Freiberg Conference on Electrochemical Storage Materials. We hope that you enjoyed our conference and we would be very happy to see you again when the 2nd International Freiberg Conference on Electrochemical Storage Materials will take place in Freiberg next year.
For establishing an active and inspiring platform of industry and research we are planning to form a community of interest in near future. We would appreciate your active cooperation very much.
